Social Media Strategy & Plan

Business going Viral Helping others Mentor music music artist music industry

Introduction:

If you're looking to grow your social media presence and build an engaged audience, these steps have worked for me—taking me from zero to millions of views, ticket and product sales, and song streams. A solid social media strategy is essential in today’s digital world. Whether you're an artist, business, or entrepreneur, having a clear plan will help you stay focused and effectively connect with your audience.

Key Steps to Create Your Social Media Strategy:

1. Define Your Brand: The Philosophy Behind Your Social Media

Before you dive into content creation, take time to understand the purpose of your social media presence. Here’s a breakdown to help you:

  • Who: Define who you are. Are you a solo artist, a band, a business, or promoting a specific product line?
  • What: What is your brand? Are you showcasing music, art, products, or services?
  • Why: What’s your purpose? Is it to entertain, educate, sell products, or grow your audience?
  • When: Do you have a clear timeline? Consider setting goals for 3, 6, and 12 months.
  • How: This guide will help with the "how" — by focusing on creating and posting the right content.

2. Prepare for Content Creation

To be successful on social media, it’s best to have content ready in advance. Aim to have at least 1 month of content ready to post. Here's the type of content to focus on:

Types of Content:

  • Long-Form Content: Videos or podcasts that are 3 minutes or longer. These can live on platforms like YouTube and can be repurposed into shorter clips for other platforms.
  • Medium-Form Content: Videos between 1 and 5 minutes, perfect for more in-depth engagement.
  • Micro-Content: Short videos under 1 minute (10-30 seconds). Ideal for TikTok, Instagram Reels, FB posts & Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

3. Content Posting Strategy

Here’s a breakdown of what to post and how frequently:

Content to Post:

  • Long-Form: Post a YouTube video or podcast once a month, then cut it into smaller clips for micro-content.
  • Micro-Content: Aim to post 7 unique micro-content pieces per week.
  • Repost and Repurpose: Share existing songs, videos, or other content you’ve already put out.
  • New Content: Share new releases, products, or events regularly.
  • In Real Life (IRL): Show real-life moments or behind-the-scenes content to connect on a more personal level.
  • Trend Jacking: Engage with trending topics and challenges to stay relevant.
  • Reaction Videos: React to popular content in your niche to boost engagement.

4. Posting Schedule

Consistency is key in social media. Here’s an ideal posting schedule for your platforms:

  • Monday-Sunday: Post micro-content on Instagram Reels ands Posts, TikTok, FB Posts and Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
Two hours later, post on IG Stories.

You can experiment with different types of content throughout the week, but ensure you’re posting every day.

5. Mix Up Your Content

Don’t post about the same thing every day. Keep your audience engaged by switching up the type of content:

Example of my Content Breakdown (Feel free to adapt to your own style):

  • 3 drum videos
  • 1 mentorship or educational video
  • 1 event/show announcement
  • 1 behind-the-scenes or personal content (e.g., hanging out)
  • 1 product promotion
  • Repeat this pattern for variety!

6. Key Takeaways for Success

  • Consistency: Post micro-content every day.
  • Pace Yourself: You don’t want to run out of content too quickly, so plan based on the content you’ve created.
  • Engagement is Crucial: Don’t just post; interact with your audience by liking, commenting, and sharing. This builds a community around your brand.
  • Do Your Research: Instead of mindlessly scrolling, use social media to research trends, competitors, and successful content strategies.
  • Collaborate & Share: Engage with other creators. Comment, share, and collaborate. Example: "Thanks, KJ, for today’s session!"

7. Elevate Your Craft & Community Engagement

  • Start engaging with authority figures in your niche. I share content from my mentors, students and other respected figures in my field.
  • Don't be afraid to repost or reference thought leaders. This builds credibility and helps you connect with a larger community.

Conclusion:

Remember, social media is a tool to help you build your brand and connect with others. Stay consistent, interact with your audience, and always be open to learning and adapting. This plan is a guideline—feel free to adjust it based on your own goals and audience.

Good luck, and start posting!
